In this tutorial we are going to create a brand new portfolio slider gallery in addition to the ones you have.
Adding it to the Menu
Before we create our slider, we are going to create a blank page for it, a link to this page will appear in your side menu.
- In the dashboard, click Pages->Add New or simply click here
You will see the following screen
2. In the title section, enter a name for your new gallery
3. Click the blue ‘Publish‘ button
4. Now lets look at the live site by clicking here, a new item called ‘My New Gallery’ has been added to the side menu but it is in the wrong order. No Problem though we can change this.
5. Let’s go back to the dashboard and click Appearance->Menus or just click here
6. The menu editor looks like this
7. Drag and drop your new gallery page menu item to any desired position and once happy click ‘Save Menu‘
Adding a New Gallery Slider to your New Page
1. Now let’s go back to your gallery page and create a gallery in it by clicking ‘Pages‘ or clicking here
2. Find your new gallery page and click it.
3. Find the ‘Insert button’ as shown below and click it
4. Search for ‘Slider’ in the search bar and click the highlighted ‘Slider’ button as shown below
5. A window pops up. Here is where you upload your new gallery items. There are lots of options but you need only worry about A and B
A. i. Click the drop down menu and select ‘media library‘ under ‘Source‘. Now click ‘+Add Images‘
A. ii. The upload window appears. This will show the ‘media library’ initially. The media library shows a history of all previously uploaded pictures used anywhere on the site. For now, lets click the ‘upload files‘ tab at the top.
A. iii. Drag your prepared images into the area where it says ‘Drop files anywhere to upload’.
You can drag as many as you want into here, wait for them to upload.
A. iv Click ‘Add Selected Images‘
A. v Now you can define what order the images will appear in your slider.
Drag and drop the circular thumbnails in to the order you want them to appear in the slider.
B. i. Finally, scroll down and find the ‘width‘ and ‘height‘ settings of your slider
For sliders that look great in portrait mode on a mobile phone set this to width 600 / Height 800
For sliders that look great in landscape mode on a mobile phone set this to width 1200 / height 800
N.B your uploaded images must be either two of these sizes.
B. iii now, scroll all the way down and click ‘Insert shortcode‘
B. iv to make your new slider gallery live, just click the blue ‘update’ button
